PHOTOGRAPHY Doreen Erhardt has been a photographer for over 35-years. Following in the footsteps of her mother, she was introduced to photography at a very young age and spent most summer days at her mother's side working in a darkroom. She didn't actually take to photography however until her husband bought her a Canon SLR system for their first wedding anniversary in 1981. Doreen spent years photographing life, mostly as a hobby while she worked full-time in the field of Aerospace. In 1990, Doreen's mother passed and with that came a strong desire to go back to school and actually train in the photographic field. After four-years of college, she felt prepared to enter the world of professional photography and accepted several wedding assignments. She also took on a series of women only portrait sessions, and finally settling in to her true love; Freelance Photography and the creative freedom that comes with it. Doreen's photographs capture those moments in life when one small bit is lit by mother nature as if given its one moment in the spotlight. Strong colors, lines, and patterns will be a common characteristic of her photographs combined with her eye for composition and often emotion make her work appealing for the marketplace. Today, 2017, the artist shoots with a Canon 7D with Canon-only lens and processes through Camera Raw. Images are then taken into Photoshop CS-5. Additional tools are Topaz Labs, Perfect Photo Suite and Nik Software. DIGITAL ART As a co-owner of a small gallery in 1997, Doreen's three other partners developed an art show entitled "Faces". Being a photographer, who at the time specialized in wildlife photography, this sounded like a fun opportunity. Two of the partners decided to cover the windows and outside of the gallery with huge art pieces and asked Doreen to participate. Needless to say, blowing up a 35-mm photograph to 50-inches was really not an option, and that was the beginning of Doreen's self-taught dive into the digital art world. Since those early days, Doreen's toolbox has been upgraded to a Wacom Pen & Tablet, Corel Painter 11 and Adobe Photoshop CS-5 with Camera Raw. Some creations are combinations of photographs, some are painted from photographs and some are free-hand series of graphic drawings with a watercolor wash. "I find digital composition to be the way to freedom for my creativity. The possibilities are endless and many of my compositions are comprised of over 50 elements and layers." Though Doreen is a self-taught digital artist, she has studied and learned the techniques of some of the best in the field such as; Scott Kelby, Deborah Lynn Ferro, Cher Threinen-Pendarvis, Martin Addison and Jeremy Sutton. DIGITAL PAINTINGS The “Slight Impressions™” series are digital paintings in an impressionistic style. Each with a unique, custom-made texture to all or part of the painting, giving them a slight impression of nature’s character. This series was created using a Wacom Pen & Tablet and Corel Painter 11. This series currently consists of six pieces which can be found on hundreds of products from wall art to cell phone covers. Doreen Erhardt has created drawings with watercolor washes for the series “The World According to Ossa™” which was inspired by her dog Ossa; who as most dogs, experience the world in a way that all of us wish we could embrace. These drawings render the simplicity and purity of life through a dog’s eyes. A Minor Chorus™ Collection is comprised of digital paintings which were created using a Wacom Pen & Tablet and Corel Painter 11, and painted from the artist's own photographs. In this series, the children represent the 'Minor' and the words are the 'Chorus'. GREETING CARDS Over the years Doreen has hand-crafted blank greeting cards which were always a big hit at outdoor art shows and in galleries. In 2005, she left the gallery circle to concentrate on developing her art business and pushing her creative limits. That creative process led her back to the greeting card design arena, only this time she fell in love with the process all over again. Writing verse and creating designs for the sole purpose of all occasion and holiday specific card design may just be the artist's first love at this stage in her art career. Currently she has over 5500 designs for sale. |
In addition to selling to all fifty states in the U.S., the artist has international sales in the UK, Canada, Belgium, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, Germany, Japan, Ireland, France, Africa and many more.
